Grade 12 Geography Exam Summary — Climate & Geomorphology
Climatology and geomorphology condensed, plus the mapwork skills that make Paper 2 the easiest 30 marks in matric.
Geography Exam Summary
Climatology
- Mid-latitude cyclones: development stages; weather before and after a cold front passes.
- Subtropical anticyclones: the three high-pressure cells (South Atlantic, South Indian, Kalahari) and how they control SA's rainfall.
- Tropical cyclones: formation conditions, structure (eye, eye wall), why SA rarely gets direct hits.
- El Niño / La Niña: El Niño = drier, La Niña = wetter for SA.
Geomorphology
- Drainage basins: watershed, tributary, confluence; dendritic, radial and trellis patterns.
- Fluvial processes: erosion (hydraulic action, abrasion), transport, deposition; waterfalls, meanders, oxbow lakes — know the cross-sections.
Mapwork (Paper 2)
Practise gradient, vertical exaggeration, intervisibility, magnetic declination and cross-sections. These are 30+ easy marks — drill them until automatic.
Strategy
Paper 1 = theory; Paper 2 = mapwork & GIS. Don't study one and neglect the other.
